The Consulate General of the
Legalizing the Power of Attorneys
1) Power of Attorney is a permission issued from a person (or more
than one person) to another person (or more than one person) to represent him
in certain matters.
2) The consulate legalizes only the documents with the original
signature.
3) If you add something to the power of attorney or delete something
from it, you have to sign beside what you’ve been
added or deleted. Also if the power of attorney is
formed of more than one page, you have to sign each page.
4) You can legalize the power of attorney by either 2 ways:
A. Come in person to the consulate with your Egyptian passport and
sign it in front the consulate official.
B. By mail, you have to send a copy of your Egyptian passport or
Egyptian ID and you also have to legalize the power of attorney from the
following:
1. The Notary Public notarizes your signature after proofing your ID.
Since the power of attorney is in Arabic language, you have to note that Notary
Public has to write in English that you (your name) signed in front of him.
2. For all power of attorneys i.e. financial, banking, selling properties, marriage, divorce
and telephone installation power of attorneys, the Secretary of State has to verify the Notary Public
Signature.
C. Sometimes The Notary public refused to notarize Arabic power of
attorneys because they do not understand its contents, in this case you have
to:
1. Find a Notary Public can understand the Arabic text to notarize
the document.
2. Print both Arabic and English power of attorneys, fill out both
of them, notarize either or both of them, and send both of them
to the consulate to be legalized as one document.
5) There are different types of power of attorneys as:

There are different types of certificates as:
q Certificate of permission to the wife to issue Egyptian
passport and travel abroad
q Certificate of permission to add children to their mother’s
passport
q Certificate of existing alive (for pension reasons)
Legalizing the
Noncommercial and NGO Documents
It depends on the type of document
as:
A. If it is
educational document (collage or school certificate), it must be legalized
first from the Egyptian Cultural office in Washington, DC.
B. Other
documents must be legalized from:
1) The Notary Public.
2) The Secretary of State has to verify
the Notary Public Signature.
3) The NGOs which aim
at working in
q You have to send a copy of the Egyptian passport of
the person who issued the declaration or the power of attorney.
q The fees for
legalization are $25 for each document in Cashier Check
or Money orders payable to "Egyptian Consulate" (personal checks are not accepted).
q For mail, please enclose self-addressed prepaid express mail . The consulate will not be responsible of any other kind of mail the citizen may send.
q The procedure takes 2 days if done by mail, and on the same day for the person who come to the
consulate.
